2024-25 offseason

Yeah, sounds like we should know something one way or the other really soon. Probably 24-48 hours tops.

I think McCormick will hit better. Not as well as he did in 2023 but much better than last year. 10 to 15 HRs.

Now that Cabbage is gone (his arm was his best tool), You have to scroll down real far to get to McCormick, and a little farther down to get to Meyers. A few really good hitters are even worse.

With Santander and Profar now signed, there’s no reason for the Astros to go to these lengths to trade Pressly unless they think a Bregman return is very realistic.

Nightingale says the Astros have officially asked Pressly to waive his no-trade to the Cubs and Tigers.

Nightengale just posted 3-4 minutes ago that the Tigers are now out. He says Ryan can be the closer in Chicago or a late inning option in Houston. Waiting on his decision.

I thought Pressly asked to be traded. Was he just kidding?

My understanding from various posts from “my friend” and others is that last year, when things weren’t going well for him he talked to people about wanting a trade but the Astros were not willing during the season.

This offseason, he and his agent determined that he could possibly get an extension or some additional benefit if he agreed to a trade so here we are.

But he won’t go to the east and he won’t go to the west. Whether he’ll agree to a team in the Mountain time zone is unclear. I have no idea when or why he became such a prima donna but it’s annoying.

Yes, it is.

Particularly annoying since he proved very unreliable against lefties, leading to extended outings for Hader.

The whole system breaks down if your 8th inning guy can’t get it out of the 8th inning.

(I love Pressly otherwise. He stepped into the closer role and thrived. But most relationships end with a mess. )

No matter how it ends, he’s given the Astros many great years, closed out the ‘22 series, and is sneakily one of the best postseason relievers in history.

His fist pump as Bregman made the throw to complete the WS no hitter is etched in the happy part of my memory.

We usually get mad at folks for leaving. This was our first opportunity to get mad at somebody for refusing to leave.

If Pressly really wanted what was best for the team he would wave his no trade clause.

This is an irrelevant side note but this whole saga had me wondering how Pressly got a no-trade clause in the first place when Crane is so reticent to agree to them, but this morning someone pointed out that it wasn’t part of his extension with the Astros, it’s his 10-and-5 status that gives him the no-trade protection.

“For Alex, I’ll do whatever,” Jose Altuve said. “Whatever I have to do for him to stay, I’m willing to do.”

Yes, that includes moving to the outfield, Altuve said.

Altuve is a true team player. Having said that, I think I would rather experiment with Paredes in left if Bregman is signed.
