2024-25 offseason

Like Ichiro? No one thinks of Berkman as anything but an Astro. He’s just the poster boy for how arbitrary, or clueless, some voters can be. Or a lot of voters can be.

Baseball-Ref’s similarity scores for Berkman are interesting – almost entirely guys who were really, really good, but not quite HOF.

The biggest victim of course is Kenny Lofton, who has clear HOF credentials but got completely ignored. If he’d played his entire career in Cleveland he’d probably have stuck around on the ballot long enough 75% of voters to realize he belongs in the hall.

It really sucks that Bobby Abreu and Lance Berkman fell off the ballot.

And Jeff Kent needed it to still be 15 years.

When an average three or four guys get into the HoF every year, that means an average of three or four rookies are future Hofers every year.

Dear HOF. There are too many HoFers. Please eliminate three.

PS: I am not a crackpot.

Everything’s coming up Dezenzo.

Well he says very clearly that he’s not a crackpot so maybe we should do what he says.

Well we sure as shit can’t endorse him for a cabinet position.

Speaking of infielders moving to left…

Why have 1 guy play out of position when you can have 2!

Tuve’s not very good at 2b any more

Altuve in left would be interesting.

Had a certain redhead mention that to me last weekend when moving him to left field came up. Maybe I just don’t pay close enough attention but I thought Altuves defense was still pretty solid.

Braves are signing Profar. There had been some talk that the Astros were interested in him, but I can’t say I’d have been thrilled about him coming here unless it was on a one-year deal. His track record is just so poor, I don’t see how you can count on him.

Apparently, a deal to send Pressly to the Cubs is very close. This according to report just now on MLB Trade Rumors. The exact terminology was “on the verge.”

I their source was Bob Nightengale.

EDIT: Chandler Rome just posted on X 2 minutes ago that Ryan has NOT waived his no trade clause at this time. He’s still an Astro.
