That post was longer than Mark Lemongello’s career. I would love to see Luis Arraez in the number 2 hole. He’s not fast and has very little power but the dude can put the bat on the ball as well as anyone. Because Altuve and Walker are everyday players, Arraez would need to be able to play LF basically everyday.
Isn’t Arraez pretty slow of foot? A LF with no power and poor range doesn’t sound great. He hits for a high avg, but they’re empty calories: his SLG last year was .392. And when he’s on base, he’s probably clogging them up.
…and get off your lawn?
I wouldn’t call him slow. Among first basemen he is middle of the pack. Statcast as him at 26.7 feet per second. That puts him ahead of Walker and Singleton. FWIW, also ahead of Olson, Goldy, Alonso, Freeman, Pasquantino, and more. As a LF his is a bit below average but ahead of Profar, Gurriel Jr, Conforto, and a few others.
ETA: Arraez’s sprint speed is better than Tucker’s and Tucker is a base stealer.
He also played in two cavernous parks last year and slugged much better on the road.
You guys are harshing my buzz.
Why doesn’t anyone want this guy?
I know why I don’t but those teams knew everything I do and played him/acquired him anyway then got rid of him.
Maybe its just economics of the teams involved, but it has the look of a guy who, for one reason or another, is not valued by a team once they have him ( and see more than you can from the outside)
Harshing your bucket of cold water.
Tbf, I thought about this too.
Why does winning three straight batting titles not secure him a bigger salary, contract, a more secure position, or a place on a top team who can carry more risk?
Idstrosfan, you are spot on to ask these kind of “inside/outside” questions. For me, I attributed it to mediocre defense, & a tendency for GM’s to geek out to look at newer hitting metrics in an attempt to find value beyond average.
But each of the reasons Min, Mia & now presumably SD are considering or did trade him are varied. SD it’s about payroll (Cease, Suarez, Croneworth have been shopped simultaneously to see which has the most return to SD’s bottom line). Miami seemed to be accumulating younger prospects from SD. And Minnesota had him for 4-5 years (hardly a dump). Nevertheless, it is a good question to ask.
Because he’s a one-skill guy—no matter how exceptional that skill may be—I get why a GM would be motivated to trade him. If he has a down year with the stick, there’s no “at least he still gives you _______.” No premium defense, no walks, no power to speak of, nothing to fill that blank. So if you’ve got teams that want to trade for him, you cash him in while he’s got that value.
But like I said, with one year on his contract, I’d do cartwheels.
I thought he was a FA after 26? I assume I am wrong because I have not been paying attention.
1 year of him for Pressly + throwable prospect sounds wonderful
I just read a piece that says Tyler Ivey will be trying for a comeback this season. Astros still hold his rights, so we shall see.
In a real shocker, Sasaki signs with LAD
I’m absolutely stunned.
The Blue Jays are the Dodgers bitch.
Imagine bull charging Otani, Soto & Sasaki - w/ a Billion of contract offers, coming up short but not extending Vlad Jr for $400m? That’s the shit I just don’t get.
I’ll bet Vladdy doesn’t get it either.
When is LA going to sign OWA to improve its fan base?
Tanner Scott to Dodgers on 4 year, $72M deal.
