Hope he regains form and has a good season in 2025, except when he is pitching against Houston of course. He was a great Astro.
Hmm, that’s interesting. I wonder what the money is.
They could always trade for him at the deadline a third time.
Smart move for him. Oracle Park is a good match for a flyball pitcher like JV.
Someone said $15M.
Haven’t verified.
Indeed.
No title in 2017 without him.
Great teammate, invested fully in the program as soon as he arrived.
He’s an All-Time Astro.
I held hope he would resign with Houston for something like the one-year deal with SF.
Those deep power alleys in SF have to be pretty appealing to him.
Astros send recently DFA’d Grae Kessinger to Arizona for minor league RHP Matthew Linskey (originally from Humble, drafted out of Rice University). Drafted 16th round in 2023, been relieving in the minors.
Another small transaction: Astros signed utility infielder Zack Short to a minor league deal. He’s spent a little time in the majors the past few seasons and is probably going to find some time on the bench this year too when someone inevitably gets hurt. Can’t hit a lick but can cover a bunch of positions (he’s got a little experience in the outfield, but is primarily an infielder).
It’s arbitration figure exchange day. One player went off the list yesterday, with Luis Garcia agreeing to a $1.875M deal while he makes his way back to the mound. We’re probably going to see most players on this list agree to terms before the end of the day:
- Framber Valdez
- Mauricio Dubón
- Bryan Abreu
- Chas McCormick
- Isaac Paredes
- Jake Meyers
- Jeremy Peña
With the payroll right around the luxury tax number, every dollar counts.
Per Berman the Astros and Dubon have avoided arbitration with a deal at $5M.
I’m sure the Astros losing against him last year gave them pause, and influenced them agreeing a little high.
I’m curious, could the Astros sign Jose Urquidy to a minor league contract?
Per Chandler Rome:
- Chas agreed at $3.4M
- Paredes agreed at $6.625M
Urquidy is free to sign with anyone including the Astros and any terms agreed upon are fine because he wasn’t offered arbitration and all 29 other teams were given a chance to take him and his potential arbitration salary and passed.
Two more:
- Bryan Abreu $3.45M
- Jake Meyers $2.3M
Just Framber and Peña left.
Pena - $4.1M
Just Framber left
I would sign him in a heartbeat. You can’t teach a bulldog mentality.
