2024-25 offseason

Maybe, but I think he’s heading to Boston. I just think BOS is trying to find the right deal for Casas beforehand. Just a guess.

Agreed, but if he can be part of a trade for a useful OF bat I’m all for it.

You’d think that for a 1 year 14M contract someone would be interested.

Amen and absolution. I’d like to see the Astros move him for prospects or an OF bat. My contention was that he has more value than a middle inning reliever.

Charlie Morten signed with Baltimore.

1 year @ $15M.

Good move for the Orioles. They needed more starting pitching depth.

Pressly declined significantly last year, has a no trade clause, and wants to close wherever he goes. That combined with a 14 million salary is why he’s still an Astro.

Damn good move for them.

Speaking of 1 year $14M interesting contracts…

“My friend” posted that Pressly is trying to leverage his 10-5 rights into an extension in exchange for agreeing to a trade.

He said, if not for this stance, he would already have been traded by now.

Smart by him and his people, but not sure if it will work.

Yeah, that probably isn’t going to work. Looks like he’ll be pitching in Houston and signing elsewhere as a free agent next year, though he might accept a trade at the deadline should things work out where that is possible. He’s in the final year of his deal so he has great motivation to pitch well. That bodes well for the Astros hopefully.

The only ways I could see it work, is:

if they add another vesting option but at a smaller price. Maybe $10M for 2026 if he gets 60 ip in 2025.

if they void the current deal for a larger guarantee at a much smaller AAV, like 3yrs/ $27M (adding 2yrs and $13M)

Pressly if finding out, like Bregman, that he’s not as hot a commodity as he thinks.

It would not surprise me if Bregman signs a short term contract or a contract that is less than what the Astros offered him.

If Pressly won’t waive his no-trade and they’re not getting good offers for Framber, they’re really gonna have to pinch pennies and trade guys like Caratini and Dubón if the priority is getting under the tax line. And I assume we can forget about deadline acquisitions in that scenario, too.

Not ideal.

If Pressly and Framber perform well and the team is contending then they may think its worth letting them walk as FAs just to optimize the 2025s team chance to contend.

Whether that’s right or not I don’t know.

The Astros need Framber for 2025 more than the offers they are likely to receive. They don’t have the starting pitching depth to trade him without getting a quality starter in return, whether he is part of the trade, or they sign someone like Jack Flaherty in free agency. Otherwise, they would have to use prospects to trade for one of the starting pitchers available like Dylan Cease or Luis Castillo.

Anybody know when 2025 game times are likely to be announced? The website has game dates, but all times are TBA.

(We’re working on planning a summer vacation that includes a swing through Houston, but our itinerary works a lot better with a night game.)

You could make a pretty good bet that almost all Sunday games will be afternoon, Fridays and Mondays will be evenings, most Saturdays evenings (but not all), and unless the game is a travel day for somebody the other days will be evenings. You gotta worry about weekdays when the Astros or the other team have a big travel stretch, but the start or the middle of a series should be a pretty safe bet.

Just found out that I will be coming to Houston for a conference Oct 1-3 - really pulling harder than ever for the Astros to make the post season this year.
