2024-25 offseason

It will be a playoff infield and a last place OF

There is no less whelming.

I predict a severe lack of gruntle in the fan base.

Dezenzo appeared to my unprofessional eye to be a player who can turn into something.

Harumphing? On OWA? Perish the thought!

I agree. And I also think back on Dana’s comment that Whitcomb’s future is in the OF. Add Leon, and there is at least some hope that one of them will rise to the challenge. Melton with a mid/late season call would be a fourth option.

Hope springs eternal.

I agree. He looked over matched at times but so did Tucker his first season. I’m ok letting some kids get a shot in the OF and then trading later if needed.

Also still like the idea of adding Lowe from Tampa. Only Stros know whether or not he could hack it in LF.

Leon needs to cut down on his K’s but he has some potential. If he’s ever going to step up, now is the time.

Pederson off the table (not that I wanted to see him in an Astros uniform): he has signed with the Rangers.

Some lines are not worth crossing.

Comes on the heels of Arlington trading Nate Lowe to the Nats.

Also Walker Beuhler to Boston on a one-year deal. They’ve built out their rotation enough that it doesn’t seem like they’re a likely landing spot for Framber (who seems less likely to be traded by the day).

I suspect that they’ll try to get someone to overpay for Framber at the trade deadline if the postseason doesn’t seem likely.

Boston has built a pretty damn good squad. I’m betting Bregman lands there and Devers gets shifted to 1B. Then they deal Casas to a team like Seattle as has been talked about for a while now.

From “my friend” this morning about a potential Framber trade:

It’s a really good question and one I have grappled about in the past. I asked a former Astros front office guy (Click fired him because he wouldn’t move to Houston) and I agree with what he said. He told me that the Astros leaked to the media that the Astros would listen on Tucker and Valdez but the cost would be steep. Tucker is gone, for a solid return. Valdez is still an Astro - which means no one made a strong offer for Valdez. He told me that teams gamble on upside and Valdez hasn’t been a Cy Young guy, he has been more consistent than a lot of Cy Young guys but executives sell owners on upside so Valdez is likely under valued around the league.

The one caveat he gave me is that it is possible after Burnes signs that a couple teams comeback with a really strong offer - the Orioles for example or Mets. However - most likely the Astros just value Framber more than everyone else. Also - he told me Framber is willing to sign an extension when Tucker flat out shut down negotiations.

The type of return the Astros would want would be a big leaguer under multiple years of team control that is established or close to it and a top 50 prospect that the Astros like. The Orioles are a good match IMO but they are looking for pitchers with multiple years of control.

  • Walker signing officially announced
  • Brown said negotiations with Bregman stalled so they pivoted to other options
  • Walker said the deal came together quickly and that he’d been interested in the Astros since he hit free agency
  • Grae Kessinger DFA as the corresponding 40-man move

Listening to Brown now. He’s flat out saying “we’re done negotiating with Bregman. We’ve moved on”.

You can’t negotiate with someone who has unreasonable expectations and is greedy. Bregman had his chance to be an Astro for life. Poor guy couldn’t live on $26 million dollars per year for 6 years.

I don’t begrudge players for making the money they do, nor getting it while they can. Good for him if he gets $1 million more somewhere else. But the flip side is I won’t give a rat’s ass about him when he plays for another team. I’m an Astros fan for life, not a Bregman fan. That’s what matters to me.
