2023 Roster

Plyers like home. Most of us question his decisions. we are on the outside looking in. We just happen to be a group that is smarter than your average astro fan.

Your use of the word “we” is pretty presumptuous.

Good answer. I just assume I may not be the best guy for what I say. Just straight from my heart. And I can seem silly at times. We is for Astros fans. Nothing more or less.

Bielak optioned to AAA. Shawn Dubin called up. Sounds like Dubin will pitch in relief for now.

I thought Bielak pitched fairly well in this latest stint.

Better than I’d feared at least.

I like that they are doing SOMETHING.

They won’t need a #6 starter until early July, if they need one at all.

I can get excited to see what Dubin can do.

Is it me or are the Astros bringing up more rookies this year than usual?

It’s an interesting move given Dubin’s current ERA of 7.96 in Sugar Land. But the coaching staff no doubt has the best sense of who can get outs right now.

As I have said before, results of outings and numbers are not all that important to the parent club’s evaluators.

Dubin has spent a few weeks on the IL this spring but has always been seen as a pitcher of promise. I would place zero weight on his AAA ERA.

We’re all gonna have to watch the Dubon vs Dubin.

Injuries. Not you.

They must see something they like. Injuries put us in an unusual situation. Happy father’s day to all.

Numbers for pitchers and hitters should be taken with a grain of salt, due to sample sizes and different park factors, especially in the PCL. 7 of Dubin’s 9 outings have been on the road. Among those 7 included 3 in Albuquerque, 1 each in Reno and El Paso. All hitter friendly parks. These numbers don’t reflect a true picture of this pitcher.
In home games - he has his two best outings (10 IP/1ER/2H/3BB/11K). Both were before he missed three weeks due to an injury. These numbers do not reflect a true picture of this pitcher.
I am counting on the Front Office and the development folks having the most complete picture of the pitcher.

Chandler Rome on Twitter:

The Astros optioned César Salazar to Triple-A. They’ll make a corresponding move before tomorrow’s game in Los Angeles.

I see much more catching time in Diaz’s future.

And if he’s in the lineup elsewhere, for the love of God, Dusty - put him at 1b and Abreu at DH.

Since the Astros are in love with carrying three catchers, do you think Lee is being called up? Could it be they are about to activate Brantley? I know he’s been on the field doing some activities but I haven’t heard any discussion of him being that close to activation.

If the goal is giving Diaz more time at somewhere other than starting C (1B, DH, PH), you’d think another catcher would be the case. But I don’t know.

We can stop speculating. According to Rome the Astros are calling up Bligh Madris.

He’s batting .249 with 10 HR and a .363 OBP with a .446 SLG.

He’s listed on baseball reference as a right fielder/first baseman. Don’t remember him playing first during the spring but perhaps he did and has played first at AAA. Anyway, this looks like someone to play behind Abreu rather than forcing Dubon over there.

This might cause a clubhouse mutiny.
