He just needs to try to help the ballclub
Breathe through his eyelids, keep the rose in front, and punch with his left hand.
This team will miss Verlander. Brown has a whole lot to do to even come close to filling those shoes. I think our best hope is that we see improvement from the rest of our staff to help fill the gap left by Verlander’s departure. Javier is the guy that I’m hoping helps fill that gap and turns into an ace this year.
He looked fucking sharp yesterday, or was that today? I think it was today. Fuck, I am getting delirious with all these late night/early morning baseball games. No 5am game for Tuesday so I can finally get some sleep. Anyway, the point is that Javier looked fucking sharp vs Nicaragua.
This is how I am looking at it. Javier “replaces” JV and Brown “replaces” Javier. Then check back at the end of the season and see how everyone did. Stay within +/- 20% performance in both of those slots and the team has a great chance to do well in the division.
Just pray for good health for the SP we have. If so we’ll be fine. If McCullers gets 30 starts or so…even better.
The Athletic estimates that an extension for Tucker would run 9/211
Gage optioned.
That surprised me. I thought he had made the team.
Looks like team wants length from the last 2 arms in the pen.
Last spot looks to be between Martinez and Bielak.
Blanco has all but made the opening day roster.
I thought Gage had made the team also.
Martinez all the way for me.
Yes, Martinez.
Agreed
Bielak is a useful guy but just as useful in Sugar Land as Houston.
Blanco has been very impressive.
Bielak is particularly useful for mop-up duty with his 5+ ML ERA.
Time to give some one else an opportunity.
I thought he had too, and after listening to the Astros podcast with Dana Brown, I‘m really surprised he didn’t make it. Brown was asked by Sparky did he think a left handed was needed in the bullpen. Brown replied that he thought having a lefty down there was important. He felt that righties could get lefties out, but said he understood the desire of managers wanting that left down there. He clearly likes Gage, but he didn’t make the roster for some reason. Brown when on to say when talking about Gage, that Astros fans would see him.
I’m trying not to get too hyped on Dirden but he is making it difficult.
He has just been getting better and better. I think he played a little center field last year in the minors. How good he played in center, I’m not sure.
I guess Dirden will take Dubon’s OF role through May?
I’ve always like Dirden. Guy deserves all the credit in the world for what he’s done and I think he’s going to be good.
