You being a social butterfly is evident to us all, however I’m happy to not interact with my office mates beyond Teams. They’re good and talented people but when we were all in the office my floor had the type of people that wanted everyone to dress up for Halloween, bring a dish for 9/13 day, have White Elephant at Christmas, etc…I’m just not that into my office mates. Likely a failing of mine. I love telecommuting and would find another job if my current job (of 15 years) required me to back into the office.
I should add that I don’t enjoy spending the day unshaven in my pajamas and Crocs. Not that I couldn’t make myself presentable at home, but the temptation is great, and working in an office helps me avoid this mania. Plus, I get to wear a hat, which helps with my mental wellbeing.
Right. And the suburbs was your only option for that. Developers can’t build an affordable house with a yard not in the suburbs because there isn’t enough space in urban areas for the minimum lot sizes, 25 foot setbacks and 3000sqft minimum home sizes that are mandated by zoning or deed restrictions.
The rule on hats is not “indoor vs outdoor”. It’s about “public vs private”. You can leave your hat on when in public, but you take it off when in private in the company of others. A bar is a public space. A lunch counter is public space. The lobby of a building or hotel is a public space. MMP is a public space. You can leave your hat on. Sitting at a private table in a restaurant…private space. An elevator is a private space. Someone’s home or office is a private space. Church is a private space.
Take your hat off.
One of the reasons why you think you need a resort house with a pool, outdoor kitchen, theater room and tons of space is because kids can’t go anywhere on their own so they are stuck there.
I feel that way about a lot of things. We have this cuckoo idea that education and experience makes someone more qualified to conduct brain surgery than a tik tok “influencer”
Right. Why listen to people who have spent years gaining knowledge of a subject, when we can just as easily read a post shared on Facebook by our crazy uncle from patriot12gauge who said it snowed at his house yesterday so global warming is bullshit.
Well now, disclosure: we have a 1600sq ft house with no pool and a 55ft lot. I’m not disputing that many people in our area buy those 3k sq ft houses with pools etc but keep in mind many people, like us, choose to live there for other reasons. We bought our house in 2008 for $150k and there’s no way we could have found the same house in town for the same price. I don’t fault anyone for the house or neighborhood they choose to live in, but I also don’t judge them for it. For myself, I don’t know that I could live around a bunch of hipsters that bike all the time and drink IPAs.
Not starting a fight, but people make choices for themselves that are the best for themselves. Some are stupid some aren’t. It’s the way of things.,
