Love these writeups. Thank you.
Jayden Murray, acquired from the Rays in the Mancini trade, with 3.2 scoreless innings tonight in his Astros org debut.
So Hamilton now has 8 assists in just 36 starts in RF since joining the org last year as a 5th rounder. He did walk on at Wright State as a two-way player and Hamilton himself thought he would eventually end up a pitcher.
Hmm. So he’s got a .303/.418/.496 line over 3 levels this season with a not too shabby 17% K rate. 29-4 in stolen bases in 122 games over two seasons. Not quite understanding why this guy hasn’t popped up yet on the back end of some prospect lists.
Because he’s a cheating Astro, duh!
14th homer of the season…
Pitchers Spencer Arrighetti and Cesar Gomez getting promoted from the Tourists.
Gomez over his last 7 appearances with Asheville: 29.1 IP, 17 H, 6 BB, 26 K, 1.23 ERA, .168 BAA, 0.79 WHIP.
With the Texas League season ending Sep 18, both might get in as many as 6 appearances with the Hooks.
It’s been a rough season overall but 3rd rounder (2020) out of Vandy Tyler Brown’s last 3 starts is offering hope of a strong finish and something to build on for '23: 14 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 17 K.
Joe Perez over is last 24 games: .340/.396/.505.
Shay Whitcomb over his last 22 games: .305/.360/.671.
22 year old DR righty Misael Tamarez looking to finish strong: 28.2 IP, 21 H, 12 BB, 43 K over his last 6 outings.
Spencer Arrighetti with arguably his best performance of the season: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K.
Has not allowed a run now in 13 straight innings.
CJ Stubbs with his 19th homer of the season in just 78 games (10 homers at Asheville, 9 with CC). He has been about as a 3TO as you can get this season–a paltry .215 BA to go along with a 12.7% BB rate and an absolutely godawful 39.2% K rate.
Continuing to pitch well down the stretch–over last 5 outings: 21.1 IP, 8 H, 5 BB, 23 K.
Good for him. He is an easy kid to root for.
The Hooks had a 10-3 lead going into the B8 but the bullpen gave up 8 runs and CC ended up losing their season finale 11-10. They finished 63-74 on the season and last in the Texas League West.
Grae Kessinger homered (#16) and walked twice. Not a great season overall for Don’s grandkid but he did show some improvement in the season’s latter half–.257/.353/.437 over the last 59 games.
Luke Berryhill had a homer and sac fly and also reached on a plunk. The catcher (although his future at that position is questionable) returned from a fractured finger to hit .275/.400/.435 in 20 games albeit with a 31% K rate.
