Per Twitter, the Indians have a $10mil club option on Hand for 2021, which they presumably don’t want to pay. If they decline the option Hand is due a $1mil buyout, which the Indians also presumably don’t want to pay. So they’re waiving him and hoping another team claims him to get them off the hook for the buyout. You can also assume that they’re waiving him because they don’t think they can trade him.

Looks like it’s going to be an ugly offseason.

A few FAs may cash in (one in particular).

Many more will have to settle for less than what the pre-covid market would have offered.

And a lot of vets will get cut loose or not have their options picked up.
