I do not know if Strom let’s him do it, or if he does it on his own, but it goes against everything Strom teaches. It’s like CFM… He came to the Astros and Strom said “yeah, you throw five pitches, but three of them suck. You’re a two-pitch pitcher now.”
I guess James has no confidence in his fastball, and it was glaring today.
Urquidy battled. He hung some curves, but that’s his best pitch. It happens. But James…
James’ fastball got him to the bigs. He’d better rediscover that confidence soon.
He still pitches as if he’s got a 90mhp fastball like he did in A ball. It’s baffling.

You all are tough customers. I was just glad James threw strikes and made them earn it. They beat us fair n square and I felt like we battled all game. Proud of the team and believe we aren’t done yet.

Not for any Astro fan anyway. Missing spots is missing spots. Whether they miss a foot outside or hanging over the middle of the plate, doesn’t matter. This is the big leagues, more importantly, it’s postseason man. Hit your fucking spots and get outs. I don’t give a shit how you do it. Get outs or get off the mound.

He could not locate his curve. He either missed low and away or hung it in the middle. The idea is to get outs, not merely to throw fat strikes the As barrel up.

True, stupid rule but that is the rule. At the same time, both James and Raley were in their second inning of work and could have been replaced at any time to head off the rally. Someone should have been up and ready to come in especially with Raley, that’s dereliction of duty on Dustys part. It’s a tie game in the 8th inning of a potential elimination game, you should have backup plans for your backup plans. Raley should not have been allowed to load the bases, he should not have been allowed to pitch with the bases loaded.
Grossman walks, if it was me he’s gone next 3 hitters are right handed. Laureano doubles, now he should really be gone. Murphy sac fly, go get him. Semien walks, now you have a lefty up so I guess leave him in, hits La Stella, why is he still pitching after that? Bases loaded 1 out and a 1 run game with 2 righties coming up, where is Dusty? Is he conceding the game already? Sac fly another run and then K’s Davis. Should NEVER have been able to picth that whole inning. Come on.
Sorry for the rant but jesus christ just fucking manage the game. It would be one thing if Raley was your closer or some high end reliever but he’s fucking Brooks Raley, not prime Aroldis Chapman

Second-guessing works every time. Who would you have brought in to replace Raley? Scrubb?
I questioned at the time giving James another inning, but at that point you don’t have a lot of options if you’re not willing to bring in Javier. Raley is your best reliever at that point. Would have loved to have Paredes or Pressly available, or hell, as long as we’re dreaming, Joe Smith or a healthy Brad Peacock would have looked awfully good in the 7th and 8th innings. But those were not options. This is the dilemma that Dusty has. He has a couple of reliable guys in the pen. That’s it. He doesn’t have seven guys he can go to when he absolutely needs outs.
It’s not exactly second guessing because I was screaming from my couch to get someone up. Scrubb would have been a better option at multiple points. I might have even given Garcia a shot
