What are you eating?

Traditionally cannelloni was made with pasta while manicotti was made with crepes, but that ship has sailed.

Yes and no. 80% crepes (in a manicotti).

What brought this on was both of us feeling too lazy/tired to cook…so I went down the street to pick up italian. Both descriptions sounded the same. Whichever one we got was delicious regardless.

We’re moving out of this apartment soon, and there’s a family-owned bread bakery in the new neighborhood. I stopped in today and picked up a small almond poppy sweet bread and four of these-- they’re called pepperoni pretzels. I warmed up two of them to have with my homemade tater soup. I was surprised to discover that there’s no actual pepperoni in them-- maybe they’re so named because they’re shaped like a slice of pepperoni? I’ll ask the next time I’m there. In any case, they’re perfect with the soup.

Eaker’s Korean cucumber salad
…I know there’s more

Made a pork rib roast. As you can see, I like the ends. Gravy for the rice is from the drippings.

Irrelevant. I promptly forget the sides.

Hutchins in McKinney had excellent sides.

I don’t particularly like potato salad so at most bbq joints I go for green beans and/or pintos.

There was a place called 3 Stacks in Frisco that has a smoked mac and cheese that was awesome.

They started life as a bbq joint; service line, meats by the pound wrapped in paper etc.

Then one evening we went there and they switched to a full service restaurant. It was odd but still good.

They were usually crowded but they closed down even before the pandemic hit.

My wife and I ate at Chop’N’Blok in Montrose tonight. Very good, unique food and a great atmosphere. Because we didn’t have a reservation, we sat at what they called a community table (not the bar). Our waiter was quite the character.

We split the chips & dip, Black Star Blok pairing and the plantain bread.

4 Houston restaurants made TX Monthly’s 10 Best New list:

Agnes & Sherman (#1), very interesting menu and concept
Di An Pho (they have 2 dishes: beef pho and chicken pho)
Zaranda (Hugo does the pacific coast)
Latuli (Bryan Caswell does whatever he wants)

Thanks. Not familiar with the first two, but they look great. I can personally vouch for Zaranda. Haven’t been to Latuli yet but it has received very mixed reviews from people I know who have.

Ive only been to agnes & sherman on this list, my wife and i both enjoyed it.
