What are you drinking, 2023…and 2024...or pretty much ever?

I once was able to try a Glenfiddich that was made in the traditional style. It was rough as old boots.

Pansy. If you have someone punch you in the mouth right before to take a swig it goes down smooth. THAT’S the traditional Scottish way.

Outstanding!! So glad you enjoyed the wine. The Grenache might be my favorite from the 2022 vintage.

Never heard of the Pegu Club. Have to give that one a try.

One of the bartenders at our local made me a Pickle Martini last week. It was a new addition to the menu and she knows I drink gin, so she asked me to try one. It was interesting. Pleasant enough, but not enough that I’d order it again. That may be due to the pickle juice she used, or perhaps another ingredient added a touch of sweetness, and I am not a fan of sweet pickle anything.

I am also somewhat amused to report that the same bottle of Hendrick’s Grand Cabaret that I posted last June is still at the bar on the gin shelf. Nobody orders it.

Someone at the bar last night was drinking that. I’m not sure the cocktail. On a side note, this guy sitting next to me was ordering all kinds of bizarre shit with sake and apricot brandy and shit.

One of my favorite cocktails. My unsolicited advice is to stay away from the juniper forward gins and go with something like Plymouth (which is our house gin).

Also, if you haven’t tried the Army Navy Cocktail, give it a go. Another one of my favorite cocktails:

The trick is finding a bar that has orgeat (and not the overly sweet shit you can buy in the grocery store).

We have a craft cocktail bar here that will have that in good quality and quantity. They only keep four or five gins on hand-- it’s a bourbon and whiskey bar-- but they’re respectable enough.

I recently bought a bottle of gin that turned ou not to be very juniper-heavy-- Harper’s Siren. It’s quite nice, but the first sip was somewhat of a surprise. Dayton Barrel Works

Nice. I’ll try to check them out. Not sure how widely available they are out here in Northern California, but worth a look.

If you can find St. George, specifically their Valley Gin (infused with orange blossoms), HIGHLY recommend it.

I’ve made one of these (edit: a Fitzgerald. One of these days, Ixll use the copy quote function correctly.) and am enjoying it now. It’s quite nice. Very tart. I’m using the less-junipery gin from my shelf. I’ve got another gin that’s more prominent with the juniper, but it’s got lemon flavor in it also, and I wanted to try the more classic version before I branch out. I’m looking forward to making this on a summer evening when the park up the street starts hosting concerts.

You obviously know what you’re talking about…ever made your own limoncello?

Not yet, but I’ve been intending to.

In honor of my four day weekend, swung by the local liquor store and replenished/refreshed the bar a bit. I’m now drinking an Army Navy Cocktail, the praises of which I’ve sung many times before in this thread. More importantly, I hope it brings better mojo for the Astros this evening. My martini diet this week didn’t seem up to snuff.
