Video Games

Maybe I’ll just copy and past and change the references to fishing instead of factory building.

Two of my favorite game series have released new games in the last 2 weeks(11/4 for both). Football Manager 26 and Europa Universalis V.

For FM26, man what a shitshow. If you play FM you know this already but after FM24 they decided to move the game to a new engine for 25 and failed miserably, to the point that they had to fully cancel the game. So after a full year with no release and basically restarting almost from scratch for 26, 26 has been universally shit on for being a buggy, laggy, feature missing, mess. Currently it’s one of the lowest rated games on steam, at around 82% negative reviews when I last checked. This from a game that usually has 90% positive reviews. I played the early release(10/23) quite a bit and it’s just not what it should be. Hopefully they can fix it with patches as the year goes on.

EU5 on the other hand, is a wonderful game. Billed as the ultimate grand strategy game, it’s kinda delivered. Most feature complete game that Paradox has ever released. I’m just under 80 hours in, so I’m starting to feel like I’m getting a grasp of it. If you don’t know anything about the EU games, it’s basically a history simulator where you control a country for a span of time(1337-1836 in EU5) and manage every aspect of that country in a sandbox way. I’ve been having a great time stemming the tide of history and bringing the Eastern Roman Empire back to glory!

If you like grand strategy games and hate having a life of any kind, this is the game for you

This one is pretty fun.

And humbling.

Did FM26 ever get any better?

I honestly haven’t played it in months, so I have no idea. They were supposed to be adding international management back in at some point this spring, but I haven’t kept up with it. That’s when I plan to give it another go

Edit: According to reddit, it’s better than at launch but still far worse than fm24
