Travel 2024 and 2025

Smaller airports do tend to be better, but some larger ones have their shit together and others don’t. Tampa International has long been one of my favorites, maybe THE best domestic airport of the larger size. Even getting to/from the car rental is well thought out. Others, I’m looking at you Denver, are a nightmare. IAH tends to be somewhere in the middle for me, other than the fact that it’s been under construction since 1972.

The BA flight from Houston docks at the arse-end of Terminal 5 and it’s a train ride or a mile of travelators to get to the terminal. The BA flight to Houston has that bullshit bus service from the terminal to the plane.

It’s so bad that next time I’m going to fly United.

Minneapolis is the most schizophrenic airport I’ve seen. Terminal 1 is the main terminal, and it’s a zoo. But nowadays we’re usually on Southwest, which operates out of Terminal 2 and is positively pastoral compared to Terminal 1.

United is only a 15 minute walk from the terminal to the gate.

…and you get much better treatment at IAH on the way over. Which is quite a thing to say.

I was not impressed with BA. The plane from Heathrow to Rome looked like something they’d pieced together from parts they picked at the boneyard in Moscow. Seats were literally duct taped together.

We bought our first house from a guy who worked for the company in charge of their baggage claim.

This was at the time that the opening of the airport was delayed because of that system.

He was as stressed as any individual I can recall seeing at the closing.

That’s because the Illuminati kept getting in the way.

Travelling to JAX on Friday from IAH. Flight is at12:20 so i plan on arriving around 9am.I’ll report in then. Agent Dithers on the case.

I love BTV (Burlington, VT). I know all the TSA people by name. 99% of the time, I am thru TSA pre-check in 1-5 minutes. One time, it took 30 minutes due to some skiing event and they called to hold my plane since I had only time-budgeted 5 minutes.

Pro Tip: If you have a layover at Heathrow of more than a couple of hours and are traveling with your main squeeze, book a Yotel to “pass the time” properly.

Duffy is threatening today to shut down all civil air travel in the U.S. if Democrats don’t cave to Republicans’ demands.

Senate has said they will be out next week so I suspect the majority will be trying everything to get something done this week, including turning up the pressure.

Today’s vote for a simple 13-day Continuing Resolution failed 54-44, basically at the same ratio as back on 30 September and every vote since then.

Fun Fact: The CR bill currently in Congress is written to expire on 11/21.

Update on my experience. C security is open, despite them saying otherwise. There is Clear but no pre check, I could’ve walked to E but decided to get in line with the commoners. Long line, but it moved fast. From getting in line to collecting my stuff from TSA, exactly 30 minutes. Non-Precheck is so much better since they dropped the taking off shoes bullshit.

Don’t know nothing ‘bout birthing no babies or Houston, but TSA Pre Check from Austin to and from LaGuardia last week was no wait smooth.

Class of '88.

My grandparents moved to TC one year to the day after the explosion.

My mom graduated in '67 and we had a handful of the same teachers in common. One of them frequently referred to me by her name, confusing my fellow students.

She dated a LaMarque boy for some years. Doing that wasn"t a big deal by the time I went to TC, but when she did it, many classmates branded her a traitor.

Received this little gem this morning from United:

“ The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) recently directed every airline to reduce their schedules across 40 U.S. airports during the government shutdown.

The FAA’s goal is to relieve pressure on the aviation system so that every airline can continue to operate safely. That is the FAA’s highest priority, and ours as well. No matter what environment we’re operating in, United Airlines will not compromise on safety.

Our flight reductions will start on Friday, November 7, and we’ll make rolling updates to our schedule as the government shutdown continues. United’s long-haul international flying will not be affected, nor will service between our hub airports: Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark Liberty International, San Francisco and Washington Dulles.

If your flight is canceled, we’ll work to give you as much notice as possible, so you don’t show up at the airport expecting to fly. But the best way to stay up to date is through our award-winning United app, which gives you real-time updates, rebooking options and more.

Importantly, if you’re traveling during this period and do not wish to fly, you’re eligible for a refund — even if your flight isn’t impacted. That includes non-refundable tickets and basic economy tickets.

Even with these schedule reductions, we expect to offer about 4,000 flights per day. And because of the early November timing, our flights have more available seats than before the summer, giving us (and you) more rebooking options.

Thank you in advance for your patience. We’ve got the best team in the industry looking after your trip and we’ll continue to be open, direct and transparent with you throughout your journey.

Sincerely,
