Ha. Don’t get me all in a lather. I have to be up early for work tomorrow… The game is taking priority tonight.
Ok, I’m a little concerned…
Spoilers
The opening with Andor stealing the new fighter was strong; the pep talk with the sympathetic grounds crew was well done. But I just finished E2 and fuck all has happened since. E2 is also only 30 minutes long.
Andor stole the ship and ended dropping in on the Lord of the Flies where he was stuck until - at the end of E2 - he just escaped with consummate ease and that’s that.
All the same time, all the Republic socialites like Mon Mothma have been stuck at a wedding. So Andor was trapped with the idiots, everyone else is at a wedding and the Empire is auditing farmers.
Not exactly cutting edge drama.
I shared those concerns through two episodes. The third delivered.
So it’s the same deal as The Acolyte, where they cut up the episodes to string out the series and jam in more ad breaks. I think E2 had 4 breaks in its meager runtime.
I suspect the backlash from that is why they decided to drop multiple episodes each week. It sounds like they’re doing us a favor while avoiding having to re-cut the episodes into proper length.
If E1&2 had been a single episode as the season opener, with a runtime of circa 1h 15m, I think it would have landed a lot better. Instead I was left “concerned” like Susan Collins.
Yes, E3 is much better.
I also liked how the targeting system is taken from the video game.
Episode two is a slog. I actually fell asleep watching it after the game last night. After the strong, strong start to the first half of episode one, it’s a bit of a letdown. Uncompelling characters doing uninteresting things in uninteresting environments. I am hoping that it is all just extraneous, but important background for later in the series.
I am hoping that the characters we met in E2 are all eaten by the bugblatter beast.
Theory Time:
Spoiler...maybe?
B2-EMO becomes K2-SO; in that they use B2’s OS to reprogram the imperial security droid who becomes K2, perhaps because B2 will otherwise expire. It would explain the loyalty to Cassian. Also I’m pretty sure they’re slowly morphing the voice into Alan Tudyk’s.
Observation: Mon Mothma’s choreography is by Florence Welch.
I am concerned that I am going to spend another three hours tonight watching a team miss free throw after free throw.
It has to get better. Ep3 was better than 2 but that’s not saying much. The first 20 minutes of Ep1 is what is carrying this thing so far. That’s not much to hang your hat on.
I will say this: I am really enjoying Season 2 of Light & Magic. The retelling of the history is really well done and the access to all those that made ILM what it was and is is astounding. I even saw one of my friends (Rob Cook) in one of the group photos. Pretty cool.
There’s never been a cooler name for a company than Industrial Light & Magic.
Coruscant looks like Croydon.
To clarify, I’m referring to the low levels of Coruscant where Bix and Cassian live, so this is entirely appropriate.
So, when Dedra orders the lights turned off, Syril’s in for the pegging of his life. Right?
I wonder what his safe word is?
It’s definitely FLŰGGÅƏNK∂€ČHIŒβØL∫ÊN.
BBY3 of Andor stuck the landing. This is the “one new movie every week” I was hoping for.
Spoiler
I loved the reveal at the end. Bix offing the torture dude - which seemed at first to be her in an act of PTSD-driven desperation - only for her to calmly exit the scene. Then she John Wick’d the guard to show she was not only in control but on top of her game. Then she met up with Cassian which showed that this was not being done behind his back. Then he clicks the remote and the building go boom. Fantastic.
Yes, absolutely loved that. Also thought the last bit with Luthen & Kleya was excellent. The tale of this season so far has been two so-so episodes followed by an excellent ending.
