I imagine they were a bit gun-shy from Friday’s game-ending double play. In spite of that, I think the lead was unnecessarily conservative.
Like you said earlier, I’m glad I’m not a Jays fan or I’d be a total wreck
Don’t know, but we also don’t know what the third base coach was telling him.
I think IKF said after the game that the 3B coach told him to stay close to the bag to guard against a line drive double play. Still, he could have been as far off the bag as Muncy was. He could have been several more feet and not been in danger of getting doubled off. Turns out, he only needed to be a few inches farther.
Exactly. My message to him would have been something like “get a good lead, but make a line drive go through. Bases loaded so run hard on any ground ball.” The base coach made him too wary of the line drive DP. The focus should have been on scoring on any ground ball.
Agree completely. If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times…“ground ball you gotta go…see the line drive through”. With the infield all playing in, including the Muncy at 3B, everything was in front of him…his goal should have been to score on any ball that hit the ground…ground ball, wild pitch…
