Roster Moves 2026

Thanks. I figured it would be retroactive to last year.

Astros claim OF Dustin Harris from the White Sox, who’d DFA’d him. JP France once again DFA.

Harris is a LHH 4th OF with some speed. Maybe Loperfido is going on the IL? He seemed to hurt something in his last AB last night.

I didn’t have " claim a guy not good enough to stay on the White Sox roster" on my 2026 bingo card.

He is also out of options so he is replacing Loperfido or Matthews.

What happened to Matthews?

He can’t hit the ball

He’s on the IL with a hole in his bat.

Loperfido to IL; newly claimed Dustin Harris activated

Rome says Jayden Murray is at the stadium so their may be another pitching move

Dana says Hunter and Javier are out until late May or early June

I have been thinking about this, if the Astros don’t miraculously start playing good baseball and get in the hunt by July…

Dana Brown needs to be either extended(won’t happen) or fired. Having a lame duck GM handle what will be a hugely consequential trade deadline would be the height of stupidity.

If they are out of it, Paredes, Pena, Hader(if healthy), Abreu, Walker, any other bullpen piece that’s worth anything, possibly even Yordan, should all be available for trade. There’s zero chance Dana will do that because it would guarantee he losses his job.

It’s time for a teardown whether Crane wants to or not. All of these guys will be at the maximum value they will ever be at this years deadline and if you make the right trades, you can be good again in a couple years. If you wait, the rebuild gets longer

Ironically, based on his resume, Brown is exactly the type of guy you want in charge for a teardown, but not as a lame duck.

I really doubt Brown will get the axe before the deadline. Any replacement GM would need time to get his feet on the ground and bring in his own staff to be able to handle a sell-off competently. That’s saying nothing of the draft, which is shortly before the deadline and is the thing Brown was hired specifically to handle. I don’t think it is too uncommon for a lame duck GM to handle a draft or a sell-off. It’s not ideal but I don’t see an alternative.

Espada, meanwhile, could get fired any minute.

I don’t see any change until August for GM.
I really don’t understand a manger change unless something culture wise is a problem behind the scenes. Having a mostly AAA pitching staff isn’t his fault.

Nick Allen to the IL with back spasms, Shewmake called up.

Javier to the 60-day to open a 40-man spot.

France cleared waivers again and is outrighted to AAA.

It’s not Espada’s fault, but there are only so many options available to a desperate owner during the season.

If I were Dana, I would make a deal with the devil to get an extension done with Cam.

Or throw a hail mary at Pena or Brown (0.01% chance)

It may be the only way to save his job.

I guess it’s a good sign that we’re trading for other teams AAA talent and immediately calling them up vs. calling up Astros AA talent directly to the Bigs. ::glass half full::

Trammell to the IL with groin tightness. Recently-acquired OF Daniel Johnson called up. Christian Roa DFA to open a 40-man spot for Johnson.

A stray thought that just hit me: we’re very lucky Nolan Arenado refused to waive his NTC when the Astros traded for him in the 2024-25 offseason.

Anybody wanna guess which Astro this is?

I assume it’s Yordan. How’s he doing that without squaring up the ball?

It’s absolutely Yordan. And he’s barreling it so much, and to such a degeee, that it matters less if he caught it square - wherever it’s going, it’s going far.
