Yeah, I was surprised by the DFA, but there’s now a major space crunch as guys start coming off the IL. It will really bite if the returning guys aren’t really healthy and immediately go back on the IL (I’m looking at you, Lance) but the helper dudes have already been picked up by someone else.
I think that’s another reason players (see Yordan) go on rehab stints, sometimes more lengthy than the fans would like to see. They have to make sure those that are coming back are indeed healthy but clearing space can be painful…and as you point out, sometimes irreversible.
That’s not why Yordan went on a long rehab stint. If it was the whole front office should be replaced.
Per Chandler Rome on Twitter:
Yordan Alvarez will DH tomorrow for Double-A Corpus Christi, Joe Espada said.
Brendan Rodgers* went 1 for 4 with a single and three Ks for the Space Cowboys last night. His first rehab game since breaking his face.

Good for him. That was a hell of a collision that had.
Blueballs down, John Rooney up. This doesn’t happen to me very often but, who the fuck is John Rooney?
He’s today’s long-relief cannon fodder. Blubaugh wasn’t particularly good, but he ate four innings. Give him a Lone Star and a pat on the back.
But he has a sense of humor - hince him choosing #69 as a uni number
I think that’s the lefty we acquired from MIA.

Getting the call…
Espada says Yordan will be at the park today and they will see how he feels before making a lineup decision.
Emotionally? Or are they not convinced his hand has healed? Neither are encouraging.
The former. He’s still absorbing the Taylor Swift news.
He’s day to day… But then again, aren’t we all?
Years can also be counted in days
There are decades where day-to-days happen, and day-to-days where decades happen.
Yordan up, Brice down.
Hot damn!
