Back in first!
Step away to deal with familial/house duties and I come back to you bunch of yahoos organize a comeback win. Nicely done.
Like we ever left?
We were one game out to start the day. Now back to percentage point lead (one ahead in the loss column).
The Astros are Inevitable?
I would never make such a claim.
Outside of Dubon’s miraculous dinger, no hits from batters 5-9 tonight.
Joey Votto popped up 11 times from 2010-20 and had zero pop ups in 4 of those seasons. In 2022 after 8,134 ABs he popped up to the pitcher for the first time in his career. From 2010-18, he popped up 8 times, his highest number of pop ups was 2015, with 2.
Joey Gallo was called up in 2015. From 2015-20 he played in 473 games with 1785 PAs, he had exactly 1 sac fly.
In his career to date, he has 4 sac flies in 909 games and 3308 PAs.
What makes this more wild is, he never hits the ball on the ground. He has only hit into 15 ground ball double plays in his career. I’m pretty sure Yainer has that many this year with 2 momths to go. How does one hit the ball in the air as much as he does, when he makes contact anyway, and have that few sac flies? Seems like it would be a statistical impossibility.
I was curious about this so I ran a stathead query of guys with at least 3000 PAs, less than 20 sac flies and more than 100 HRs(to get rid of slap hitters that never hit the ball in the air) since 1954(when we have official records).
The result, Gallo is the lowest, Martin Maldonado is actually second on the list with 10 sac flies. The next guys on the list are Brandon Nimmo and Mike Zunino with 13 with Marwin Gonzalez rounding out the “top 5” with 14.

So I looked this one up too. I don’t know when GIDP started being officially tracked, seems like around integration because when I ran the search for all of baseball history there were a million guys with 0 and all of them were pre-integration but there are some that do have GIDPs, Babe Ruth has 2.
But, since 1947, there are 3 players with more than 3000 PAs and 20 or fewer ground ball double plays
Drew Stubbs with 20, Billy Hamilton with 19… and Joey Gallo with 15.
So two speedy CFs who have about 480 SBs between them and Joey Gallo. And they both have MORE GIDPs than him. Gallo is a fucking weird player man.
Ok I’m going to bed before I talk myself into running more searches
