Wow. The bike paths along Buffalo Bayou only take you so far.
Was on the road the whole way. From my house I dropped down to Memorial and then followed that as it morphed into Briar Forest and San Felipe, then dropped down to Westheimer once I was there.
San Felipe on the way back was an adventure.
Im close to the phoenix, and have watched an AFL grand final there.
It’s officially a Celtic pub, so they have the big screen whenever Celtic is playing. Outside of that, the big screen will be for whatever game they deem to be likely the gather the biggest audience but - importantly for fans of lesser clubs - they will guarantee a TV for every game that’s on. Basically any TV that does not already have a dibs en vogue is available to be dibbed for your game.
If you go, name drop Ray (me) and Matt (fan club guy) to Vu, the owner, to gain absolutely no cred whatsoever.
I’ll just tell him “Limey” sent me.
That is an adventure i would not choose. Fuck man you owe your guardian angels an apology.
Ive known Vu for quite a while now, he is a great guy. I will add to the sentiment that the Phoenix is a great place to watch some soccer. I do believe they are currently hosting the Man City supporters club, so let that factor into your viewing. I go up there for a lot of the USMNT matches.
When Citeh isn’t winning, those frontrunners can be hilarious to watch. But they are otherwise annoying.
In a similar vein, there is usually healthy crowd for Bayern Munich, who aren’t happy unless they’re 4-0 up inside 30 minutes.
One of the reasons why players like Wirtz - who are absolute superstars in other leagues - struggle when the come to the EPL is because the EPL has quality down to at least 15th (this year arguably it’s 19th). In Germany, France, Spain and Italy, there are two, maybe three, teams who compete for the title, and everyone else is making up the numbers.
So when they move to the EPL and find themselves up against an international defender when playing a relegation candidate, it’s a shock to the system. The good ones float and the others…
Trolling
…get signed by Man Utd for insane money.
Of course, Bournemouth and Fulham are currently proving me very wrong about quality in the EPL.
I think they heard me.
Eze and Odegard starting in the midfield for Arsenal vs West Ham. This is the kind of match that has kept Arsenal in 2nd v 1st the last 3 years, lower table team Arteta can’t find a way to break down and they end up dropping points. Arteta has never started a midfield wirh this much attacking dna.
Doesn’t look like the Hammers are having much of a new manager bounce.
Arteta finally starts the midfield fans have been clamoring for. 2/3 go off with injury. Between Arsenal and the Astros I’m cursed with rooting for teams that just get ruined by injury. Maddening.
Chelsea-Liverpool has all the grace and guile of an April relegation scrap.
And down goes Liverpool.
They’ve been flattering to deceive all season, and are now getting found out.
Slot changing 3 of his starting back 4 at halftime is a damning admission.
The palace just had a lovely one, 1-0 over everton.
Fucking Everton. Every time. I just can’t.
Should’ve wrapped it up before 60 mins, then Palace ran out of gas with 30 mins to go.
Unfun Fact: Palace’s 1969 streak of 18 unbeaten was ended by Everton at Goodison. Just in case you thought this was not inevitable.
