I don’t understand how achieving a set schedule can overcome the excitement, attention, and dare I say, revenue that comes with Game 163s.

With so many Postseason spots it’s more than Game 163. It’d be Games 163, 164, and 165. They simply added teams to the Postseason in lieu of Game 163.

I’d be ok with game 163 only being for ties not involving divisional opponents. If the Guardians and Tigers ended up tied, I see no reason for a 163, those teams played 13 times in the season, just use season series. For teams not in the same division, basing it off 6 games that could have been played 4 months ago, or worse yet divisional record is less ideal in my mind

A sensible compromise. Basically the prior rule that if’s postseason or bust, play game 163. But if it’s only for purposes of seeding, let the tiebreakers rule.

I liked the postseason appearance streak and I am sad to see it end. It would have been cringe-worthy to see it extended solely because of Manfred money-grubbing postseason expansion only to get swept in the WC in embarrassing fashion.
