This reminds me of Todd Graham at Rice. He has a good (for Rice) year, signs a new contract, and literally the next day (I think, maybe two days) he announces he’s leaving for Tulsa. He was there for a year or two and then bolted for ASU, and the Tulsa folks were beside themselves wondering how he could do such a thing. Yeah, it’s a real mystery; who could have possibly foreseen it?

My gf at the time worked at Rice, so I was paying more attention to that situation than usual. The faculty, administration, team, students were all so pumped up, and Graham lied straight to their faces for a month+ up to the day he took the Tulsa job.
eta: Graham is thinking of running for Congress out of Arizona
