These kids today don’t know what great music is…like we had 12 months ago.
Are you sure NOLA isn’t awash in they/thems?
They would still need more, especially coming up to Mardi Gras.
BTW, I too took the liberty to chose my own pronouns. I now prefer my pronouns to be it and that.
I agree with that, HFTRR is pretty solid and I’ve been following them for a while now.
Had the good fortune to see them a few times as far back as 2013 at dba in NOLA and JazzFest appearences. So good live.
I’ve never actually talked to anyone whose pronoun is “they.” If it’s a reference to one person would the verb be singular, so that “they is” would be proper? “They are a good band, they is a good singer?” This is like listening to the English talk about sports teams.
“Is the singer good?”
Who, them?
I have a nephew who has a long time childhood friend, Luke. Sometime within the past couple of years, since I last saw him, this 30 year old dude got dumped by his girlfriend and then decided he was non-binary. Changed his pronouns. He shaved his beard, grew his blond locks out, and wears bare midriff blouses. Asked to be addressed as Elsie. Lately, since he recently moved to Austin, I’ve seen him several times. Now, when I see him, I pretend it’s all perfectly normal behavior. Why not?
Of course “them is” has always been proper in Shreveport.
I prefer the contraction, dem’s. As in “dem’s crawdads smell bad.”
dem deres good eatin’

Or about maths.

As an employer of Gen Z’ers this has been a regular part of my life for many years now.
As a writer I have real issues with the grammar consequences.
As a reader I have regular cause to think back to an excellent short story by Tobias Wolff called “Bullet in the Brain”. What happens in the story is a man gets shot in the head. As the bullet tunnels through his brain he experiences a brief sort of windchiming of oddly surfaced memories. For instance, he recalls playing pick-up baseball as a kid with another kid, I think a black kid, who spoke in a way that left a lasting impression. “Shortstop’s the best position they is,” he remembered the kid saying.
The story ends with the dying character’s remembering those words three times: They is. They is. They is.
I guess that answers the question of “is they is or is they isn’t?”.

It’s Homer now! I’m a friend of the little man!
Is they is or is they ain’t?
My favorite 2024 albums are by bands that have been around (Waxahatchee are the baby):
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Wild God
Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood
Richard Thompson - Ship to Shore
Paul Weller - 66
Nick Lowe and Los Straightjackets - Indoor Safari
Laurie Anderson - Amelia
Jesus and Mary Chain - Glasgow Eyes
ETA: I need to check out Kim Gordon’s new record.
