I still believe that human performance can’t be accurately measured by stats. I think the foil for Burrows is Arrighetti, who has been very lucky according to xEPA. I saw this written about him on a fantasy baseball site saying to sell him:
When Arrighetti can pinpoint his curve ball, he’s a good pitcher. We’ve seen several outings of him where he doesn’t control it and he throws his average-at-best fastball and other offerings for a high WHIP and nibbles on the edge of the strike zone with lukewarm shit. But the guy fucking competes. I think that’s the difference between him and Burrows. Burrows can set people up but can’t put them away. This xERA shit, I don’t know much about, but I think it fails to capture human will power. Arrighetti looks to me like a real competitive MF while Burrows seems like a perfectionist without put-away stuff. I think Arrighetti is absolutely going to get blown up, probably tomorrow, but I think that all these new-fangled stats don’t accurately depict heart and will power. I’ve lost all faith in Burrows.
