Mariners @ Astros, September 21, 2025 Fan Appreciation Day

I base this off of nothing but pure ignorance, but it feels like they frequently go up there looking for offspeed pitches.

Whoever is coaching Cam Smith is on the verge of ruining a fantastic prospect.

Not on a 3-2 pitch trailing 6 runs. Or you shouldn’t.

I would have thought the same as you, but here we are

I’m reminded of the words of Dandy Don (no, not the MNF clip, though that applies too):

Couldn’t get the video to work, but here’s a brief quote from what I assume is the same story:

As Walt Garrison told the story on Dale Hansen’s Sports Special on WFAA on Sunday night, the Cowboys’ charter flight after a game sometime back in the late '60s had just dropped 300 feet in a violent storm, like an elevator in free fall, and big, tough NFL football players were screaming and crying left and right.

Someone looked over at quarterback Don Meredith, who sat calmly reading a magazine, a cigarette in one hand and a scotch in the other.

“Aren’t you scared?” asked the player (some say it was linebacker D.D. Lewis).

Replied Meredith, sipping his scotch, “It’s been a good 'un, ain’t it?”

The story just about perfectly sums up the man who liked to tell his teammates to always remember their ABCs – Always Be Cool.

Yes that’s the one.

It has been a better run than I ever could have imagined.

I get the frustration with this season. But Crane has yet to give any indication that any “run” is “over”. I’ll wait until I see what they do this offseason before I start adding lines to the eulogy.

Headline on mlb.com right now:

LIVE: Going for a stunning sweep, Seattle starts it with a slam

It’s only stunning if you haven’t been watching the Astros.

Crane is not hitting in the middle of this lineup.

Neither is anyone else.

Are there any bars open in Midland?

Little Woodrow’s. It’s actually quite pleasant sitting outside.

As long as you’re not looking at the screen I reckon.

There seems to be another popular place in town called Woody’s Hideaway. Looks like you’ve got your choice of Woodys up there. Another plus is that I would wager your commute is shorter. You can probably sleep in until 5:30 if it’s a day you didn’t plan on shaving.

The one in Houston on Alabama? was always a nice place

Woody’s Hideaway is all the way across town. It’s take me 7-8 minutes to get there. Fuck that.

And yes, sleeping in until 5:30 is one of the things I’m looking forward to most.

It’s still 7-1 at the Stretch, for those still interested.

I went to the one on Holcombe / Bellaire Blvd. I think the name changes at the train tracks there but I’m not sure, I don’t think anyone is sure. I also went to one on Chimney Rock because one of my idiot cousins liked to hang out there for who knows what reason.

I may very well have been to the one on Alabama with Limey once but regrettably details are vague.

Ehh, the Limey incident was a place on Richmond, now that I think about it. That doesn’t mean I never went to that LW’s with Limey, though. It just means I remember it even less.

Cole may be one of the nice finds in this org. I know it’s only been a few at bats, but he’s already earned some significant playing time. And I still think Cam Smith will be a fine player.

Few who attend a night out with Limey remember many details.
