…always been woke:
Yep. Not to mention the overt homosexuality of Batman and Robin. They may as well have starred in Top Gun:
Dick Grayson is his ward, which to my non-lawyer understand indicates he is a minor or incapacitated in some way. That is a “problematic” relationship if there is any sexual element to it as you are implying.
Yeah, I think that’s the point. As for implication…the homoeroticism in Batman is pretty overt and understood.
“EDDINGTON” is great…if you enjoyed Aster’s “beau is afraid” or think that joaquin phoenix’s penis needs more screentime. Or if you want a genius to hold a magic lantern of recent usa history to gaze upon.
Took my 16 year old to watch it at river oaks theatre…we had just seen “mystery of chess boxing” featuring the famous villian, Ghost Face Killer, so its my turn to pick the flick.
My son did not like eddington, but he was a good sport and gave it a fair chance.
I do like it, but the events in the film evoke and communicate the cultural madness that is killing us with great skill. Many will hate this movie for all the wrong reasons (thinking it is a subtle partisan of the other team).
Apparently i laughed a lot in the movie…dark humor is a constant in aster’s work. But i also laugh sometimes when i am upset/uncomfortable. I think i often laughed in the movie because i felt multiple often conflicting emotions simultaneously. That rarely happens in a theatre or elsewhere. Well done Mr. Aster.
What they did brilliantly with “Prey” - and what it looks like they’re doing here - is to take an existing, almost done to death, IP and make it fresh.
Basically the opposite of every Jurassic Park movie save the original.
What twist?
That the predator is the protagonist.
So, with Elle Fanning playing a Weyland-Yutani synthetic person…
Spoilery Theory
Is the big bad enemy on this planet a xenomorph? Elle’s android is shown as being from the Bio-Weapons division.
… who is also a podiatrist working thru a divorce.
At the very end was that a yellow cargo loader, ala Aliens?
The opening image of the trailer makes it clear its completely embracing the shared universe.
Pretty sure we’ve known that since the teaser? Am I misremembering that aspect?
She said he was a heel.
Time wounds all heels.
Thumbs up!
I re-watched “The Menu” last night. I enjoyed it first time, although being totally clueless going in it was hard at times to allow the plot to unfold.
The re-watch was more satisfying because I could relax about the long arc and enjoy all the foreshadowing and nuance.
