The end of the Virginia Tech/Miami game was absolute insanity that has to be seen.
Basically there is a jump ball thrown to the endzone with VT down 4. At the back of the endzone thereās about 6 guys going for the ball. The ball kind of gets swallowed up by the bodies and a Miami player ends up with the ball, so Miami wins right? Not so fast. Refs call TD VT. To review we go.
The ball is not clearly able to be seen, Iām 90% sure nobody caught it but the ball never touches the ground and ends up in the Miami players lap, BUT heās out of bounds, ok so definitely not INT. But the Tech player did have the ball in his hands as they start going to the ground, he does come down in bounds but did he have control? I donāt think he did but the call on the field is that he did. No clear angle, probably call stands, Tech wins. NO the call is reversed and Miami wins.
The call ended up being right but I know people are going to be mad at this one.
People are big mad about this one because a bad call on the field got overturned without āindisputable evidenceā that it was wrong. Iāve seen so many āthey just want Miami to winā ok then why did they call it a TD in the first place? Then they could hide behind the lack of indisputable evidence easily and everyone would move on. We need more just get the call right and fucking stop with the ruling on the field being the default. That goes for all sports.

This is the inherent problem with all replay rules: āWell, if weāre not sure, weāll just go with the call on the field.ā Hey dumbass, the whole reason youāre LOOKING at the play is because the call on the field is at least slightly questionable.
