Oh boy.
Summon Orville Reddenbocher from the great beyond.
(I do hope it’s nothing bad)
Man, I wonder what the heck this is?
I swear I did not give Correa a massage
Well, certainly it’s most likely related to his back? About 2 weeks ago Steve Phillips and Jim Bowden had an “interesting” discussion regarding Correa. It was interesting because it was a little “testy.” The conversation was about how much you’d be willing to pay Carlos and for how long. Phillips said no way would he give him a long term deal because his back issues were “structural” and that the routine he has to go thru at age 27 on a daily basis just to get on the field was extensive and alarming to him. He’d never heard of player going thru this much daily just to play. Bowden responded that he had not heard that and that he was surprised Phillips had heard this since it should be hippa protected. Bowden asked where he heard this and Phillips said from sources close to the Astros organization. Bowden again stressed that this should protected information and that it was a disgrace that someone in the Astros front office would tell Phillips that, to which Phillips replied, “I didn’t say it came from the front office.” You could feel the tension on the radio.
I share that to say this. If there is even a shred of truth to what Phillips says then I guess this is most likely due to his back issues. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
EDIT: Just heard on radio that there is a report out saying that his back is not the issue.
I remember a predraft Baseball America article comparing Correa’s body to that of Troy Tulowitzki, and the speculation that injuries could be a risk
People totally misunderstand what HIPAA prohibits.
So you’re saying most armchair lawyers don’t really know the law? What’s next, suggesting people shouldn’t get their medical advice from Twitter?
Twitter or Facebook are bad places to research why you are coughing.
I’m no lawyer but I’m pretty sure “this is his stretching routine” isn’t HIPAA protected.
No kidding.
Man, I remember when that law was enacted. I was working in Legal Affairs for the Discovery Channel and we had to cancel a popular show (Trauma: Life in the ER) because of potential HIPAA violations.
Can the Giants void the deal? Where does injury disclosure come in?
I don’t think Bowden was talking about his stretching when he was talking about hipaa violations. It was Phillips’ claim that his back issues are structural. At least that was my interpretation.
Why don’t we have a detailed discussion about hipaa violations?
Night night, all.
You gotta be shitting me.
Dude. This is wild.
Astros in 6.
Wow. Looks like somebody took that NY Post headline about buying the Astros seriously.
Someone hurt poor, puffed up Correa’s feelings. Unbelievable. Are Mets fans now chanting “We want Houston?”
Had he signed the SF contract? Do the Giants have a cause of action against him or against NYM? If it was unsigned pending the physical, probably not. Kinda like a law school exam question.
ETA: In other news, JV says his reason to join the Mets was:
"Obviously Billy has a vision, knows the team intimately and what puzzle pieces best fit to make the complete puzzle,‘’ Verlander said. “But, ultimately, some of those pieces aren’t cheap. And in the background, Steve is like ‘Hey, we’re going to do what’s necessary to make this organization a championship caliber ballclub.’ So, I had faith in that.”
See, y’all. Money had nothing to do with it. He is joining a team which is committed to becoming a champion. The only thing missing from his HOF resume is a championship, apparently. Oh, wait….
