Sad to see he’s done, but yeah, he’s done.

Possibly. But it’s only been 14 months since his Tommy John procedure. It can take longer for some to get back to full strength (up to 20 months). I’d be more confident making that determination next season. He’s likely not dealing with a fully functional ligament yet.

On a related note, I saw my cousin’s kid a few weeks ago. He was pitching in AAA for the Red Sox this year. He had the TJ Brace procedure in July. He said he is expecting a 6-9 months recovery time and is going to try to come back next season. He is 33. I fear his career is over but hope springs eternal.

6-9?! I know that personal conditioning and modern diets and lifestyles can help a ton, but I hope whatever doctor gave that timeline is no longer their doctor.

ETA: I missed the “brace” part of your post. Maybe this is something different?maybe this is what Blanco had? Apologies if science has once again passed me by.

If it’s an internal brace, thats different from a TJ and comes with a shorter recovery. TJ replaces the UCL with a ligament from your leg, internal brace leaves your UCL in place and reinforces it with synthetic material. 6–9 months is standard for the brace procedure.

ETA: the ligament doesn’t necessarily come from the leg; on further reading, it’s more commonly taken from elsewhere in the arm.

Kroenke’s global sports empire is already the largest in the world. He owns:

  • NFL : Los Angeles Rams (Full owner)
  • NBA : Denver Nuggets (Legal owner: Ann Walton Kroenke; Day-to-day management: Josh Kroenke)
  • NHL : Colorado Avalanche (Legal owner: Ann Walton Kroenke; Day-to-day management: Josh Kroenke)
  • Premier League : Arsenal F.C. (Full owner)
  • WSL : Arsenal W.F.C. (Full owner)
  • MLS : Colorado Rapids (Full owner)
  • NLL : Colorado Mammoth (Full owner)

Wonder if that changes Click’s thinking about the A’s job. Either case might make the AL West tougher.

My girlfriend is going to be very excited about this when she emerges from her work cave

Aside from his willingness to sign players on the decline to too long of contracts for too much money, was Moreno considered a bad owner?

He refused to allow baseball ops to develop the farm system, he openly sated that he didn’t think fans cared out winning, he pinched every penny in other ways (like moving start times to the literal last minute allowed by the CBA to try to maximize attendance)

Moreno bought the team in 2003 for $180 million and is now selling it for at least $4 billion. And we will hear all off-season that “poor” teams like the Angels can’t afford to compete.

And they’re the one org that doesn’t cater to other teams’ travel difficulties by using getaway-day games. The Astros return the favor for the Angels in an eye-for-an-eye exchange.

Nobody can call him cheap, but he was the definition of penny-wise and pound foolish. I will miss having him as the owner of a division rival.

The sale values the Angels at $4B, topping the recently-set record $3.9B valuation the Padres just sold at.

Gotta think the ball really gets rolling on expansion with construction underway on the A’s Vegas stadium and the Rays getting approval for their Hillsborough College stadium site. MLB owners must be salivating at the expansion fees they’ll be able to get.

We should pool our money and put an expansion team in Marble Falls.
