It’s seems to me that HB isn’t trying to shove high FBs down hitters throats anymore.
Any data to back that up? Or is he mixing pitches more effectively.
I think what you are seeing is him replacing some of those 4-seamers from last year with more sinkers instead. His 4-seam usage has dropped from 46.1% last year to 35.5% this year, while the sinker has gone from 5 pitches last to 15.7% this year. Sinker location has a tight cluster on the 3B side in the shadow zone(2in within either side of the zone). 4-seam location is very similar to last year, up and in to rightys, but the cluster is tighter, showing his improved command.
In fact, the cluster on all his pitches are night and day compared to 23. The knuckle curve is a little all over the place but you kind of expect that with any curveball variant.
This was just looking around for 5-10 minutes. I don’t remember where the in-season stuff is located and don’t have time to find it. Maybe later I can dig into those numbers because I’m really curious to look at April vs the last few months.
