I do not think he felt either of those things. The mic went live before he knew it. He never would have said that into a live mic. Some who who felt infallible and invincible would.
What it did prove is “This is not me” was utter bullshit.

I used a word that is both offensive and insulting. In the past 24 hours, I have read about its history; I had no idea it was so rooted in hate and violence and am particularly ashamed that I, someone who makes his living by the use of words, could be so careless and insensitive.
I didn’t know that the slur I used as a slur was really a slur!
