Astros @ Rays, 9/11/26: The Hurt for Yordan

Of course not walking Caminero was foolish, I was just pointing out that Abreu wasn’t exactly dealing, so all the more reason to put Junior on.

MEANWHILE, Nate Pearson, (remember him?) has turned into a shut-down reliever in KC. Time was, pitchers came here and got a lot better. Now they leave and get a lot better. In physics this is known as the Bagwell Effect.

If Hicks wins that game I’m frustrated with Abreu for a few hours but letting that dude hit there is just horrifically bad managing. Not that this is a surprise at this point. The moment I saw they were going to pitch to him I started reaching for the remote so I could turn the game off before I had to watch the celebration. I didn’t even have time to grab my remote.

I cannot fucking wait until that stupid fuck is no longer managing this team.

I’d rather a cardboard cutout of Bagwell be managing than Espada.

Maybe a picture of Tony Eusebio.

Morgan Ensberg. I bet these fuckers would learn some plate discipline with HIM as skipper, hell yeah.

Bryan Abreu had allowed five earned runs in his last 31 innings before tonight. I’d say that’s worthy of trust.

I know he’s way better than he was early in the season.

But he ain’t right.

He’s been mostly right since July, posting ERA’s below two.

Pitching to Caminero in that situation was stupid, but Hader and Abreu are the two reliable relievers the Astros have right now. Blubaugh was doing well, but his last couple of outings have been poor.

Abreu has been pretty great lately and I was happy to see him start the inning. If that happens against Hicks I’d be fine chalking it up to a bad outing. Shit happens. But no, Espada had to fuck around and find out instead.

This is the equivalent of pitching to Yordan with a base open in a close game.

Just inexplicably stupid.

Abreu threw the cookie, but the fact that he was even pitching to Caminero is a managerial crime. There is no excuse for it. None. Not even a little.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Abreu was thinking the same thing as he threw the meatball.

Hicks hit a game-winning grand slam in his first game with Tampa and is batting .310 with the team. He has worked out a bit better than our late season acquisitions.
I hate it when we play TB.

The reality is you scored three runs over the last two games. A split is about as good as you could’ve hoped for in that situation.

Bottom line is the chances of winning a bullpen game vs TB and Rasmussen was very low from the start.

Once they lead off with a double it was very likely a loss regardless. But that doesn’t excuse such a terrible management decision.

The first 8 1/2 innings gave us hope but the result was what I expected.

They still lead the division and tomorrow there is a better SP matchup so we can hope.

You give up two hits and 1 run through 8.1 innings, you have to win that game. Period.

Of course. That’s on the offense, though.

Sure. I’m just saying “well, we knew we were probably going to lose going in” doesn’t work for me.

The bottom line, the chances of winning are severely diminished by poor game management.
