Astros at Rays, 8/12/24

He’s been really overwhelmed at this level so far.

It’s the definition of an error. Dumb.

I don’t disgree with you, it’s an error in my mind, but that exact play is never ruled an error unless the guy was camped under it and still didn’t catch it.

My annoyance with including Loperfido in the trade rather than any of the other 300 similar outfielders the team has around was that in my opinion he has upside and can possibly be a very good major league player while Cabbage, Leon, hat et al certainly will not.

That play has to be made 100 times out of 100 at this level. Scorers are idiots sometimes.

In other news…I love these early night east coast games.

If you could finagle a transfer to your company’s California offices a lot of your problems would be solved.

Didnt know much about either before they called them up. Loperfido was more ready, but neither has shown any power whatsoever and both have a huge hole in their bats. Leon doesn’t appear anywhere close to being Major League ready.

They’d have to add another zero to my salary.

As for the game…end of four…5-1 Astros

Loperfido had/has plenty of problems, but he’s a serviceable major league player. He’ll either fix the swing and miss and be really, really good or he won’t and he’ll be a 4th outfielder. These other guys have no business in the major leagues.

I don’t think Loperfido is a huge loss. He is better than Leon, though, at least at this point.

I don’t really see Loperfido ever becoming a very good major leaguer. He first needs to adjust his swing, who knows J.D. Martinez did with great success. But so far Joey has shown very little of the power he showed in AAA and which merited his call up.

See, I always thought Martinez could be a really good hitter. Even said so many times. I do not see the same potential in Loperfido.

Bases juiced for Jake…

Loperfido is a K machine. If he had to be traded to get Kikuchi, so be it.

It’s hard to demonstrate any power when you don’t make contact.

Yep

I remember we talked about our hopes for J.D. once while walking to a game from the Flying Saucer circa 2013. Yeah, it’s more likely Joey becomes Rick Ankiel (also on 2013 team).

Jake hits one hard up the middle, they get the out at 2B, but beats out the double play as a run scores
