Astros at Rangers 5/16/2025

Except that it’s not just tonight. We’re nearly two months in and he’s got an OPS of .610, and he’s 34 years old. It’s not unreasonable to wonder if he’s cooked. If so, that would be unfortunate, since he’s under contract for two more years.

I know these are two good starters we’ve faced, but this team is never going to score again.

I quit wondering about this a while ago.

With 2 outs, Eovaldi walks Walker and Texas goes to the bullpen.

Walker is 1 for 2 with a BB

The rest of the team is 1-17 (single) with 2 BB

So, just another night at the ballpark.

Takes Ort 16 pitches to get Semien, Jung, and Carter. 1-2-3

Bullpen sure has been impressive.
Think any of them can hit?

This is such a good staff.

If you looked at this team and asked for guys who are providing league-average offense at their positions, who would you wind up with? Peña and Paredes, I suppose. Maybe Meyers, but how real is that? 2B, 1B, LF, RF, C, and DH are all black holes. Maybe things will get better this summer, but I’m not betting on it.

1 out single by Jake.

It may take his legs to getba run here.

Dezenzo then Smith due

Just warning-track power all night

I feel confident that C and DH will improve, but CF will come back down, so they’re overall still in a world of hurt.

Glass half full, walk on the sunny side, that’s me.

I called Jake’s hit, by the way, but I had a LCF gapper for a double. I need to fine tune this.

Cam w/ an RBI double.

Pena up with 2 outs

2-1 Rangers

Rangers bringing in Armstrong.

Bochy too chicken to let the lefty face Jeremy.

Cam did EXACTLY what I foresaw Jake doing. Gotta adjust the settings a little.

Pena walks.

Runners on the corners w/ Altuve up.

Good time for Altuve to forget he’s 35

Peña deserves applause for improving his eye over the offseason. He doesn’t chase nearly as much as he did last year.
