Holy shit, that was an absolutely awful foul tip call on a ball that missed Tucker’s bat by a solid 6 inches.

Ain’t no ump show like a completely wrong ump show

The strike zone seems to be expanding suddenly.

Does a ‘completely wrong ump show just stop’?

For fucking fuck’s sake, Bielak.

Walk and a HBP with an 8 run lead.

He’s pretty gassed

So let’s have him throw to one of their best hitters!

Rules nerds:

Was that obstruction after Bregman turned (again) to go to second?

Came to ask the same thing. Would Bergman have to have attempted to go to 2nd for it to be called?

From umpirebible.com:

When action on the play concludes, you act on the obstruction call by doing one of the following:

  • If the result of the play is such that, in your judgment, the obstruction caused the runner to be put out or to not reach the base that he would have reached had the obstruction not occurred, then you call “Time” announce the infraction, then place the runner where, in your judgement, he belongs. Other runners advance if forced.

  • If, on the other hand, the obstruction did not affect the play by causing the runner to be put out or to fail to reach base, then simply ignore the obstruction, say nothing, and move on. Often a base coach or player will have heard you verbalize “that’s obstruction” and will ask you, then, why you’re not enforcing a penalty. Call “Time” and explain (in three seconds or less) why you’re not doing so.

So…I think by that definition he could’ve awarded Bregman 2nd. (Edit - ump would’ve had to call obstruction at the time obviously, which he must not have done)

I think this Yainer kid can hit a bit

If you had Yanier and Jake with four hits a piece today, you need to buy a lottery ticket straight away.

Pena strides up to the plate determined to end the hit parade, and does quickly and effectively.

Manoah has now given up 45 runs this season.

He allowed 55 during the entire 2022 season.

On the broadcast last night they said that hitters chasing his slider out of the zone last year was his bread and butter.

They continued that it rolls a bit more this year with less bite and hitters have been able to see it better and lay off of it. They also said his Fastball is down about 1 MPH.

MLB hitters are world class. Any little reduction in quality from a pitch can result in it being hammered.

Thats also the difference in a pitcher who relies on deception and pitching out of the zone vs one who has the stuff to beat hitters in the zone.

Thats why the Astros like the Rafael Montero’s of the baseball world.
