I’m more worried about what might have been in his sandwich. Or his cheese.

Nothing so classy as all that.

Where can a guy get a good Czernina in the Houston area?

Codeine?

This place was pretty good the couple of times we had it, but we found Asia Market Thai Lao Food around the corner on N. Main and never looked back. The Pad Kra Pow with crispy pork is divine, and the Pad Kee Mow and Green Curry are favorites as well.

We lived in Spring Branch for around 8 years before moving to The Woodlands area a couple years ago. Vieng Thai was super close, and we ate it a couple times for its convenient location, but found it unremarkable. We would pick up Thai basil noodles and green curry from Your Kitchen (Long Point/Bunker Hill) if we didn’t want to venture far. They also had Chinese dishes on the menu that we never ordered, but their egg rolls were great.

Tony Thai was always solid - we loved their Thai Basil fried rice.

Haven’t found really great Thai near us yet. Charm Thai is pretty good. Will have to try Four Regions.

There is a massage parlour immediately adjacent to to Vieng thai…“papaya massage” lots of services provided in that tiny slice of houston.

Vieng thai is still there and is a legit, very good option. Small sample size, but had a solid experience. The waitress said it had been there for “22 o 23 year.” The potrait of what i assume is a thai royal figure looks a lot older than that. Saw some thai-protective magic shit on the wall. Service was fast, the prices great value, and the spice level manageable (i always say medium first time at a place). A multi-generation family came in while i was there and the mom kept “reminding” grandma about how much she liked the place, how they used to come and hear a guy sing showtunes right over there. Gradma always remembered, and would give her empty, hollow…yes, i do remember.
I used to live fairly close to it (near antoine and tidwell), and it would be my go to place if it wasn’t so outside of my usual range. Im midtown, downtown, eado, and montrose almost only now. I traveled down heapstead to get there, literal memory lane. The hidangunse was rocking. The pentacoastal church is still there. Vieng thai is one of the amazing invisible treasures that makes houston so incredible. Appreciate the recommendation.

BTW–took the misses for lunch to MaKiin on kirby between alabama and westheimer. Skip it.

Took 5 of the family to truth bbq in houston on washington. Its good food, and has heavy tourist trap vibes which murder any interest i have in going again. That’s an idiosyncratic position, no shade if it’s your favorite.

Looking forward to folk thai downtown.

I have another recommendation. My friend from my time at Houston Public Library likes Malai Thai Street Eats in Midtown. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but he keeps encouraging me to do so. It’s on Travis.

The only reason i haven’t gone there already is its right next to cali sandwich. I’ll let you know real soon.

Malai thai is great. My 16 year old says “10 of 10.” Strip mall. Parking is rough, but finding something close is easy. Lots of fun fake botanical decour. Floral shirts, tiny thai people. Reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. Easily can walk there, but will probably drive there more often than stroll. Like the atmosphere…of the many very close thai options its the only one i’d prefer to dine in. Again, cali sandwhich is one of my very favorite places and now I’ll be going to both. And by the way, we really liked the food. We split a beef pad see ew and an order of mango sticky rice. Spice was nice…quite a few japanese and chinese items on the appetizer menu…look forward to exploring it over the next couple of years.

Happy to hear it was really good. I’ll have to try it when I’m in that part of town.
