2025 offseason

So on another note, is the Yainer we’ve seen the Yainer we’re gonna get?

I’m hoping that Peña took him to see the same guy that Peña saw last offseason.

McTaggart reports Abreu settled at $5.85M. Paredes and Diaz did not settle and will head to arbitration (they can still work out a deal, they’ll just have to go through the process of filing figures).

Correa?

No, Peña’s chase rate went way down last year. I want the same thing for Diaz.

The story was that Peña worked with Correa before 2025 and that his coaching helped Peña make the strides we all saw.

Tigers and Skubal going to arbitration. Skubal submitted $32M, Tigers $19M.

If I were the arbitrator, Skubal should get to stand there and throw garbage at the team reps for making that offer.

You’re much nicer than I would be.

I’d submit the contract is null and void, and Mr. Skubal is free to sign for whatever he can get.

Ahh, thanks for the info: I was ignorant of that part of the story. My apologies to @BillyD.

But I still hope Diaz got some coaching. And listened to it.

He needs a shock collar that zaps him everytime he swings. He’s still going to swing a lot, he can’t help it, but maybe he doesn’t swing at literally every pitch.

Diaz filed at $4.5M, the Astros filed at $3M

Paredes filed at $9.95M, Astros at $8.75M

Elsewhere in the league, Tarik Skubal filed at $32M against the Tigers’ $19M. Insane gap there and it seems like the team is much, much closer to any precedent-based number. Arb salaries for top-end pitchers haven’t kept pace with hitters, so I guess this is Boras’s gambit to try to make up the entire gap at once.

eta: quite cabrera’d on that last point

I wouldn’t want to be the arbitrator there.

When they get to the “throw shade at the player” part of the process, Skubal should jump up and say that he’d win 30 games per year if the org did not surround him with such scrubs.

Agreed.

I hope the Tigers’ front office enjoys insulting their best player with that offer. If they hold on to him and get nothing when he leaves in free agency after the season, they are fools.

Can Yainer be double zapped if he swings at a low and away slider?

Or zap him as the pitch is thrown so he knows not to swing. Maybe Altuve can help get him fitted with the tech.

I’ll see myself out…

He needs it attached to his balls.
