I’ve probably done 1/8th starts 4 times.
Sarah Jane Moore
Jane Goodall, 91.
One of the greats.
From “person who likes animals” to Ph.D from Cambridge in 4 years. She’s only one of 8 people in the 816 year history of the university to be admitted to a Ph.D program with no prior college experience.
Look at this CV. Amazing:
Dr. Jane Goodall CV
Wow, I did not know that.
Ira Flatow interviewed Jane Goodall on multiple occasions, most notably in a 2002 episode of Science Friday, where they discussed her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees in Gombe, her discovery of tool use among chimps, and her transition to environmental advocacy…
A particularly memorable moment occurred when a caller asked if Goodall believed in undiscovered large ape species like Bigfoot or Yeti; she responded affirmatively, citing Native American accounts and a British scientist’s finding of unidentified hair.
I love that she believed in Yetis.
Diane Keaton, 79
Boo, she was great
Total bummer. She was great. I loved her early work - all those great Woody Allen movies like Love and Death or Annie Hall. Totally fearless to take on a role like her’s in Looking of Mr. Goodbar. And she aged so gracefully always finding work throughout her long career.
Godspeed, Diane Keaton.
Mike Greenwell died last week at age 62. Thyroid cancer.
Sorry to hear of his death. Last I heard of him, Greenwell was County Commissioner of Lee County, Florida (appointed by his buddy Ron DeSantis), where he was being sued by residents for awarding big contracts, against their wishes, to a development company owned by…checks notes…Mike Greenwell. Grafters gotta graft.
Yuck
D’Angelo, 51. Pancreatic cancer.
Drew Struzan.
Never heard of this guy before, but it turns out I have been loving his work for decades. He did poster art for movies such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing.
For my movie collection I make sure to find the original poster art wherever possible. Turns out, a significant portion of those movies have art by Struzan. Once you know it, you can recognize his signature style.
Ace Frehley
Nothing against the person, but I have always hated that band.
Pancreatic is one of the rougher ones. My father-in-law died from that 20 years or so ago. He was a practicing Pathologist at Scott & White and read his own slide that informed him of his condition.
